Looking out, I see tiny buds beginning to poke their way through the soil; branches bare all winter have dared to send forth their first green shoots. The wind blows warmer, the rain feels somehow fresher. It is unmistakeable – spring is here again.How fitting that, as we approach the month of lights, the blessed month of mawlid, we should find ourselves entering the season of spring. For what more fitting time could there have been for the one whose birth signified the dawning of new hope for mankind, a new spring of tauhid after the dark and cold winter of disbelief; for the one who loved all things green and who revived dead hearts to life, than the month of Rabi’ al-Awwal (lit: the first spring)?Shaykh Hamza Yusuf mentioned that the Prophet (s) was born in spring and loved green. He continued that green was the first colour that the eye could perceive, and the last that it could make out; the middle of the spectrum of light. Green is also the colour of chlorophyll, which mediates photosynthesis in plants – the conversion of pure light into energy and nourishment that ultimately allows our continued existence. The parallels are manifest but beautiful nonetheless: he (s) is from the light of Allah, the first Prophet and the last, the moderate and median way, neither too harsh nor too lenient; he is the source of all nourishment and the means of continuation for all spiritual life. He (s) is, as the commentaries of the Quran mention, the solitary flowering tree in the midst of a barren desert – from whose fruits all men feast, and beneath whose boughs all find shade and rest.The advent of spring fills one with gladness – a joy that the believer cannot but feel when he or she contemplates the arrival of the best and most beloved of all creation (s). Allah says in the Holy Quran: ‘In the blessings of Allah and in His mercy – in that let them rejoice,’ and, ‘make remembrance of the Days of Allah.’ al-Bayhaqi relates that the Prophet (s) said, ‘the Days of Allah are Allah’s Blessings and Signs, and the Prophet’s birth is a great bliss.’ For almost a millennium, Muslims have joyfully commemorated the arrival of our spiritual Spring with the celebration of mawlid.Mawlid has three meanings: the time of the Beloved’s (s) birth, the place of his birth and the fact of his birth. However, for hundreds of years, the word mawlid has been used to signify the celebration of the Prophet’s (s) birth. Mawalid have been – and still are – held wherever there are Muslims; from the Islamic heartlands of Arabia, Egypt and Syro-Palestine to the very borders of the traditional Islamic lands such as Indonesia, the Caucasus and Western Africa. In the 20th century, the globalization of the Ummah and mass migration has seen mawlid celebrated in the most unlikely of places – from the rain-swept streets of the UK to the snowy mountains of Canada to the tip of Southern Africa.It is beloved of the common folk of the community and cherished by the elect. Kings and rulers have used mawlid to connect to their followers; scholars have used it to educate the people. Such has been its popularity among the learned and the unlearned – so deeply has it touched the hearts of Muslims from every walk of life – that one would struggle to find a place that has not been graced by the celebration of the Beloved of Allah (s).Rabi` al-Awwal Mubarak, dear friends. Question: As Salamu `alaykum. Does celebrating the birthday of Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) have any evidence from the Qur'an and Sunnah? www.Sunnidawateislami.Com has answered that question in their question-answer column saying that it is allowed to celebrate the Prophet's birthday, the Qur`an has approved it and there is evidence from it in the Sunnah. When I discuss this matter with my family, I tell them it is bid`ah or an innovation. Am I right? I'd like you to please clarify this matter to me. I'd also like to know the correct date of birth of our Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and the date he died.

Dear questioner, first of all, we'd like to voice our appreciation for the great confidence you repose in us. Our utmost wish is to have our efforts come up to your expectation. May Allah help us all keep firm on the straight path, Amen!

It is permissible to celebrate the Prophet's birthday as an expression of love to the Prophet provided that the celebration doesn’t involve any of the prohibited acts.

In this regard, we would like to cite for you the following fatwa issued by Sheikh `Atiyyah Saqr, former head of Al-Azhar Fatwa Committee, in which he states the following:

According to historians, the Fatimides were the first to celebrate the Prophet's birthday. Qalqashandi, in his book Subh Al-A`sha, says that the Fatimides used to make a huge celebration in Egypt and distribute large amounts of sweets for the occasion. Actually, the Fatimides used to celebrate the birthdays of other members of the Prophet's family and they also celebrated Christ's birthday.

However, all of these celebrations were stopped in 488 upon an order from Caliph Al-Musta`li billah appointed as prime minister Al-Afdal Shahindah, son of Commander-in-chief Badr Al-Jamali, a powerful man who conformed to the Sunnah as stated by Ibn Al-Atheer in his book Al-Kamel, volume 8, page 302.

People stopped celebrating such occasions till Al-Ma'mun Al-Bata'ihi came to power and issued an official decree in 517 enjoining the distribution of alms in 12th Rabee` Al-Awwal. Sanaa' Al-Malik was in charge of distributing them.

When the Ayoubides came to power, they stopped all Fatimide practices, but families used to celebrate the Prophet's birthday in their houses. Then it returned to be officially celebrated at the beginning of the seventh century in the city of Irbil upon a decree from its prince, Muzafar Al-Deen Abi Sa`d Kawakbri Ibn Zein Ed-Deen `Ali- Ibn Tabakatikin, who was a Sunni.

Muzafar gave great care and attention to such celebrations and ordered marquis to be erected starting from the beginning of Safar. Such tents, which were wonderfully decorated and extended from Al-Qal`a gate till the Khandaq gate. Muzafar used to go everyday after `Asr prayer to watch the festivities in these tents.

The celebration was sometimes held on the 8th of Rabee` Al-Awwal (and sometimes on the 12th) which used to be an official holiday so that the people could enjoy the festival. Two days before the actual celebration, Muzafar used to order the sheep, cows and camels to be slaughtered in the main avenue amidst cheerful festivities, then the meat would be cooked and distributed among the people.

Ibn Al-Hajj Abu `Abdullah Al-`Abdari says that such festivals were widespread in Egypt during his rein and condemned the innovations that used to take place during such festivals. (Al-Madkhal, volume 2, p 11, 12)

Many books were written on the Prophet's birthday in the seventh century such as the stories of Ibn Dahya, who died in Egypt in 633 AH, Muhy Ed-Deen Ibn Al-`Arabi, who died in Damascus in 683 AH, Ibn Taghrabik, who died in Egypt in 670 AH; and Ahmad Al-`Azli and his son Muhammad, who died in Sabata in 670 AH.

Due to the spread of innovation during such celebrations, scholars have denounced them and stated that they were groundless. Among those scholars is the Maliki jurist Taaj Ad-Deen `Umar Ibn Al-Lakhmi Al-Sakandari known as Al-Fakahani, who died in 731 AH; he wrote his thesis Al-Mawrid fil Kalam `Ala-Mawlid on this issue and As-Suyuti quotes it in his book Husn Al-Maqsid.

Sheikh Muhammad Fadl `Ashur says that in the ninth century, scholars were divided over the issue. Some said it was permissible, others said it was not and it was recommended by As-Suyuti, Ibn Hajar Al-`Asqalani and Ibn Hajar Al-Haythmi, yet they condemned the innovations that took place during such festivities. Their opinion was derived from the verse: (And remind them of the days of Allah) (Ibrahim 14: 5).

Explaining the previous verse, An-Nasa`i and `Abdullah Ibn Ahmad report in Zaway’d Al-Musnad and Al-Bayhaqi in Shu'ab Al-Iman reports on the authority of Ibn Ka`b that he said that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), said: 'The days of Allah' are Allah's Blessings and Signs, and the Prophet's birth is a great bliss." (Al-Alusi's Ruh Al-Ma`ani)

Muslim reports on the authority of Qatadah Al-Ansari that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), was asked about fasting on Monday and he replied: "It is the day on which I was born and on which I received the Divine Revelation". It is also reported on the authority of Ibn `Abbas and Ibn Jabir that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was born in the "year of the elephant" on the 12th of Rabee` Al-Awwal. He also received the Divine Revelation, ascended to the Heavens, migrated to Madinah and died on the 12th of Rabee` Al-Awwal.

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), says that the day he was born was a special day. Since it is well known from the Shari`ah that Muslims should seize the opportunity in blessed days and do good deeds, Muslims should celebrate the Prophet's birthday so as to thank Allah for guiding them to Islam through Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him).

Therefore, celebrating the Prophet's birthday is permissible provided that it does not include committing any of the prohibited things. As for throwing banquets, this comes under the verse saying: (O ye who believe! Eat of the good things wherewith We have provided you, and render thanks to Allah if it is (indeed) He whom ye worship.‏) (Al-Baqarah 2: 172)

My opinion is that celebrating such a religious occasion is recommended especially nowadays for youth have become forgetful of these religious occasions and their significance because they have indulged in other celebrations.

Celebrating such a great event should be done through reading more about the Prophet's Sunnah and life, building mosques, religious institutes and doing other forms of charity work that remind people of the Prophet's life and his struggle.

Therefore, it is permissible to celebrate the Prophet's birthday as an expression of our love to him and our endeavor to follow him as an example provided that these celebrations do not involve any of the prohibited things. Some prohibited things are improper intermingling between men and women, behaving improperly at mosques and partaking in innovations such as worshiping at tombs and other things that violate the teachings of Islam. If such previously mentioned violations surpass the religious benefit realized from these celebrations, then they should be stopped in order to prevent harm and wrongdoing as indicated in the Shari`ah.

Moreover, Sheikh Yusuf Al-Qaradawi, adds:

We all know that the Companions of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) did not celebrate the Prophet's birthday, Hijrah or the Battle of Badr, because they witnessed such events during the lifetime of the Prophet who always remained in their hearts and minds.

Sa`d ibn Abi Waqqas said that they were keen on telling their children the stories of the Prophet's battles just as they were keen on teaching them the Qur'an. Therefore, they used to remind their children of what happened during the Prophet's lifetime so they did not need to hold such celebrations. However, the following generations began to forget such a glorious history and its significance. So such celebrations were held as a means of reviving great events and the values that we can learn from them.

Unfortunately, such celebrations include some innovations when they should actually be made to remind people of the Prophet's life and his call. Actually, celebrating the Prophet's birthday means celebrating the birth of Islam. Such an occasion is meant to remind people of how the Prophet lived.

Allah Almighty says: (Verily in the Messenger of Allah ye have a good example for him who looketh unto Allah and the last Day, and remembereth Allah much.) (Al-Ahzab 33: 21)

By celebrating the Prophet's Hijrah, we should teach people values such as sacrifice, the sacrifice of the Companions, the sacrifice of `Ali who slept in the Prophet's place on the night of the Hijrah, the sacrifice of Asma' as she ascended the Mountain of Thawr. We should teach them to plan the way the Prophet planned for his Hijrah, and how to trust in Allah as the Prophet did when Abu Bakr told him: We could be seen so easily, the Prophet replied saying: "O Abu Bakr! What do you think of two when Allah is their third?" (Have no fear, for Allah is with us.) (At-Tawbah 9: 40)

We need all these lessons and such celebrations are a revival of these lessons and values. I think that these celebrations, if done in the proper way, will serve a great purpose, getting Muslims closer to the teachings of Islam and to the Prophet's Sunnah and life.

As for celebrating `Ashura’, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), celebrated this day by fasting only. He asked the Jews why they fasted on that day and they told him that it was the day that Allah saved Moses and the people of Israel. The Prophet replied saying: "We have more of a right to Moses than you." So he fasted on that day and ordered the people to fast on that day. He also said near the end of his life: "By Allah, if I lived longer I would fast on the 9th of Muharram." That is, that he would fast on the 9th and the 10th in order to be different from the Jews who fast on the 10th only. However, some of the Sunnis celebrate `Ashura as if it were a feast. The Shi`ah consider it a day of sadness and mourning, but all such things are innovations and are completely un-Islamic.

As for the second part of the question, the exact date of the Prophet's birth is controversial, but it is most likely to be on Monday, 9th Rabee` Al-Awwal (20th or 22nd of April, 571 AC), the same year in which the invasion of the Elephants took place against the Ka`bah. And he (peace and blessings be upon him) passed away on Monday 12, Rabee` Al-Awwal in the eleventh year of Hijrah (8 June 632 AC.)

ബേക്കല്‍: ഭര്‍തൃമതിയും ഫാഷന്‍ ഡിസൈനറുമായ യുവതിയെ വീട്ടിനകത്തെ ഫാനില്‍ തൂങ്ങി മരിച്ച നിലയില്‍ കണ്ടെത്തി. പള്ളിക്കര പാക്കം ചര്‍ളിക്കടവിലെ അബൂബക്കര്‍-നജ്‌മ ദമ്പതികളുടെ മകള്‍ ഹസീന(25)യെയാണ്‌ തൂങ്ങി മരിച്ച നിലയില്‍ കണ്ടെത്തിയത്‌. കണ്ണൂരില്‍ ഫാഷന്‍ ഡിസൈനിംഗ്‌ കോഴ്‌സിനും സിവില്‍ എഞ്ജിനീയറിംഗിനും പഠിക്കുകയാണ്‌ ഹസീന.
ഹസീന ഭര്‍ത്താവ്‌ പാലക്കാട്ടെ തങ്കച്ചനുമായി പിരിഞ്ഞ്‌ സ്വന്തം വീട്ടിലാണ്‌ താമസം. ഇവരുടേത്‌ പ്രണയ വിവാഹമായിരുന്നു. നാല്‌ വര്‍ഷം ബേക്കല്‍ കോട്ടക്കുന്നിലായിരുന്നു താമസം. ഒരു മാസം മുമ്പാണ്‌ ഹസീനയുടെ കുടുംബം പാക്കം ചര്‍ളിക്കടവില്‍ പുതിയ വീടെടുത്ത്‌ താമസം തുടങ്ങിയത്‌. ചൊവ്വാഴ്‌ച്ച രാത്രി 10 മണിക്കും 11 മണിക്കും ഇടയിലാണ്‌ സംഭവം നടന്നത്‌. മാതാവ്‌ നജ്‌മയാണ്‌ ഫാനില്‍ തൂങ്ങി മരിച്ച നിലയില്‍ മൃതദേഹം കണ്ടെത്‌. ദിവസവും കണ്ണൂരില്‍ പഠിക്കാനായി പോയി മടങ്ങിവരാറുള്ള ഹസീന രണ്ട്‌ ദിവസമായി അസ്വസ്ഥത പ്രകടിപ്പിച്ചിരുന്നു. തലേ ദിവസം വീട്ടുകാരുമായി വഴിക്കിട്ടിരുന്നതായും പറയുന്നു. സജാത്‌(അഞ്ച്‌) ഏക മകളാണ്‌. ഗള്‍ഫിലായിരുന്ന സഹോദരി റജീന രണ്ടാഴ്‌ച മുമ്പാണ്‌ നാട്ടിലെത്തിയത്‌. ബേക്കല്‍ പോലീസ്‌ ഇന്‍ക്വസ്‌റ്റ്‌ നടത്തിയ മൃതദേഹം കാഞ്ഞങ്ങാട്‌ ജില്ലാ ആശുപത്രിയില്‍ പോസ്‌റ്റുമോര്‍ട്ടം നടത്തി.

ലോകത്തെ ഏറ്റവും വലിയ രണ്ടാമത്തെ റീട്ടെയില്‍ ഭീമനായ കരെഫോര്‍ ഇന്ത്യയിലെ ആഭ്യന്തര കമ്പനിയുമായി കൈകോര്‍ത്താണ് പുതിയ വിപണനശാല തുടങ്ങുന്നത്. എന്നാല്‍, ഏതു കമ്പനിയുമായാണ് സംരംഭത്തിലേര്‍പ്പെടുന്നതെന്ന് കരെഫോര്‍ വെളിപ്പെടുത്തിയിട്ടില്ല. അമേരിക്കന്‍ കമ്പനിയായ വാള്‍മാര്‍ട്ട് കഴിഞ്ഞവര്‍ഷം ഭാരതി എന്റര്‍പ്രൈസസുമായി ചേര്‍ന്ന് ഇന്ത്യയില്‍ വ്യാപാരശാല തുടങ്ങിയിരുന്നു. സമാനമായ ബിസിനസ് സംരംഭം ഈവര്‍ഷം കരെഫോറും തുടങ്ങുന്നതോടെ ഇന്ത്യയില്‍ സംഘടിത റീട്ടെയില്‍ മേഖലയുടെ വളര്‍ച്ച ശക്തിപ്പെടുമെന്നാണ് കരുതുന്നത്.

ഫ്രാന്‍സില്‍ 46 ശതമാനവും മറ്റു യൂറോപ്യന്‍ രാജ്യങ്ങളില്‍ 35 ശതമാനവും ലാറ്റിന്‍ അമേരിക്കയില്‍ 12 ശതമാനവും ഏഷ്യയില്‍ ഏഴു ശതമാനവുമാണ് ഇപ്പോള്‍ കരെഫോറിന്റെ വിപണിവിഹിതം. ഏഷ്യയില്‍ ഏറ്റവും കൂടുതല്‍ വളര്‍ച്ച കൈവരിക്കാനാവുക ഇന്ത്യയിലാണെന്നാണ് കമ്പനിയുടെ കണക്കുകൂട്ടല്‍. ഹൈപ്പര്‍ മാര്‍ക്കറ്റ്, സൂപ്പര്‍ മാര്‍ക്കറ്റ്, ഹാര്‍ഡ് ഡിസ്‌കൗണ്ട് ആന്‍ഡ് കണ്‍വീനിയന്‍സ് സ്റ്റോര്‍ എന്നിവയാണ് കരെഫോര്‍ സ്ഥാപിക്കുക.

അഞ്ചുവര്‍ഷത്തിനകം 87 കോടി ഡോളര്‍ റവന്യൂ ഇന്ത്യയില്‍നിന്ന് നേടാനാകുമെന്നാണ് ഓസ്‌ട്രേലിയന്‍ റീട്ടെയില്‍ ഫുഡ് ഗ്രൂപ്പ് പ്രതീക്ഷിക്കുന്നത്. 20 വര്‍ഷത്തിനകം ഓസ്‌ട്രേലിയയിലേതിനെക്കാള്‍ കൂടുതല്‍ ബിസിനസ് ഇന്ത്യയിലുണ്ടാക്കാനാവുമെന്നും അവര്‍ കണക്കുകൂട്ടുന്നു. അപ്പാരല്‍, കോസെ്മറ്റിക്‌സ്, പാദരക്ഷ എന്നിവയുള്‍പ്പെടെ ലൈഫ്‌സ്റ്റൈല്‍ രംഗത്ത് 35 സ്റ്റോറുകളുള്‍പ്പെടെ മൂന്നുവര്‍ഷത്തിനകം 50 വ്യാപാരശാലകള്‍ ഇന്ത്യയുടെ വിവിധ ഭാഗങ്ങളില്‍ സ്ഥാപിക്കാനാണ് ദുബായ് ലൈഫ് സ്റ്റൈല്‍ ഇന്റര്‍നാഷണലിന്റെ പദ്ധതി.

കാഞ്ഞങ്ങാട്: പള്ളിക്കരയില്‍നിന്ന് നാടുവിട്ട രാമന്‍ നാട്യരത്നമായി തിരിച്ചെത്തി. നീലേശ്വരം പള്ളിക്കരയില്‍നിന്ന് എട്ടാമത്തെ വയസ്സില്‍ നാടുവിട്ട കെ.എം. രാമനാണ് കര്‍ണാടക സര്‍ക്കാറിന്റെ നാട്യരത്ന ബഹുമതിയുമായി 69 വര്‍ഷങ്ങള്‍ക്കുശേഷം തിരിച്ചെത്തുന്നത്. കര്‍ണാടക സര്‍ക്കാര്‍ നല്‍കുന്ന ഏറ്റവും മികച്ച പുരസ്കാരമായ നാട്യറാണി ശാന്തള അവാര്‍ഡ് അടുത്തമാസം മൂന്നിന് ഏറ്റുവാങ്ങാനിരിക്കേയാണ് കെ.എം. രാമന്‍ ജന്മനാട്ടിലെത്തിയത്. കര്‍ണാടകയിലെ തന്റെ നാട്യജീവിതം വഴി ഒരു ഡസനോളം പുരസ്കാരം ഈ കലാകാരന്‍ നേടിയിട്ടുണ്ട്. പള്ളിക്കര ചന്തേര കൃഷ്ണയോഗിയുടെയും മാണിയമ്മയുടെയും മകനായ രാമന്‍ പിതാവ് മരിച്ചതിനെത്തുടര്‍ന്ന് 1941ല്‍ നാടുവിട്ടു. ഒമ്പത് രൂപയുമായി നീലേശ്വരത്തുനിന്ന് വണ്ടികയറിയ രാമന്‍ മടിക്കേരിയിലെത്തി. കുറച്ചുദിവസം അവിടെ തങ്ങി. കൈയിലുണ്ടായിരുന്ന ഒമ്പത് രൂപ ഒരു മലയാളി തട്ടിയെടുത്തു.മടിക്കേരിയില്‍നിന്ന് മൈസൂരിലെത്തിയ രാമന്‍ ഗുരു രാജഗോപാലിന്റെ കീഴില്‍ കഥകളി അഭ്യസിച്ചു. അന്ന് പ്രായം 10. തുടര്‍ന്ന് ബംഗളൂരുവിലെത്തി ഭരതനാട്യം പഠിച്ചു. പ്രശസ്ത നര്‍ത്തകന്‍ യു.എസ് കൃഷ്ണറാവുവും ഭാര്യ ചന്ദ്രഭാഗ ദേവിയുമായിരുന്നു ഗുരുക്കന്മാര്‍.ഭരതനാട്യത്തിലെ പന്തനല്‍ക്കല്‍ ശൈലിയുടെ കര്‍ണാടകത്തിലെ അവസാനവാക്കായി രാമന്‍ മാറി. പിന്നീട് അദ്ദേഹം നാട്യരത്ന ഗുരു കെ.എം. രാമന്‍ എന്നറിയപ്പെട്ടു. 1962ല്‍ തുംകൂറില്‍ ശ്രീ രാജരാജേശ്വര നൃത്യകലാമന്ദിരം ആരംഭിച്ചു. 'നൃത്തം ജീവിതവും ജീവിതം നൃത്തവും' എന്ന സന്ദേശം പ്രചരിപ്പിച്ചു. 49 വര്‍ഷമായി ആയിരക്കണക്കിന് വിദ്യാര്‍ഥികളെ നൃത്തം അഭ്യസിപ്പിച്ചു. 2000 മുതല്‍ കര്‍ണാടക നൃത്തസംഗീത അക്കാദമി അംഗമാണ്. 1993ല്‍ കര്‍ണാടക കലാതിലക അവാര്‍ഡ്, '98ല്‍ കര്‍ണാടക രാജ്യോല്‍സവ അവാര്‍ഡ്, നൃത്തവിദ്യാനിധി പുരസ്കാരം, '86ല്‍ നാട്യശ്രീ അവാര്‍ഡ്, നാട്യകലാ പ്രവീണ, ശ്രീനാട്യാചാര്യ അവാര്‍ഡ്, 2001ല്‍ നാട്യകലാസിന്ധു, 2003ല്‍ രാഷ്ട്രീയ രത്തന്‍ നാഷനല്‍ അവാര്‍ഡ് തുടങ്ങി ഒരു ഡസനോളം പ്രശസ്ത അവാര്‍ഡുകള്‍ നേടിക്കഴിഞ്ഞു. രാമന് നാട്ടില്‍ ഇപ്പോള്‍ കാര്യമായ ബന്ധങ്ങളൊന്നുമില്ല. എങ്കിലും താല്‍പര്യമുള്ള ചിലരെ കണ്ട് 'സ്വദേശ'മായ ബംഗളൂരുവിലേക്ക് മടങ്ങും. പാലക്കാട് ചിറ്റൂര്‍ സ്വദേശിയും നര്‍ത്തകിയുമായ ദേവകിയാണ് ഭാര്യ. ബിനീഷ്, സത്യവതി, സുരേഷ്, ഗുണവതി പ്രഭാകര്‍, ഹരീഷ് രാമന്‍, ഗിരീഷ് രാമന്‍ എന്നിവര്‍ മക്കളാണ്.നാട്യകലയെ കച്ചവടവത്കരിക്കാന്‍ പാടില്ലെന്ന് രാമന്‍ മാധ്യമപ്രവര്‍ത്തകരോട് പറഞ്ഞു. കല കലയായിത്തന്നെ നിലനിര്‍ത്തണം. ഭരതനാട്യത്തിന് ഭാവവും രസവും താളവുമാണ് പ്രധാനം. ഒമ്പതാം വയസ്സു മുതല്‍ 22ാം വയസ്സ് വരെ പഠിച്ചാല്‍ മാത്രമേ ഒരു യഥാര്‍ഥ ഭരതനാട്യ കലാകാരനാവൂവെന്ന് അദ്ദേഹം പറഞ്ഞു. മകന്‍ ബിനീഷ്, ടി. ബാലകൃഷ്ണന്‍ എന്നിവരും അദ്ദേഹത്തോടൊപ്പമുണ്ടായിരുന്നു.

കാഞ്ഞങ്ങാട്: തകര്‍ന്നടിഞ്ഞുകൊണ്ടിരിക്കുന്ന ഹോസ്ദുര്‍ഗ് കോട്ട നവീകരിച്ച് പൂര്‍വ്വസ്ഥിയിലാക്കുന്നതിനുള്ള പ്രവൃത്തികള്‍ ആരംഭിച്ചു. ദേശീയ പുരാവസ്തു സംരക്ഷണ വകുപ്പിന്റെ കീഴിലാണ് കോട്ടയുടെ പുനര്‍ നിര്‍മ്മാണ ജോലികള്‍ ആരംഭിച്ചത്. പതിനെട്ടാം നൂറ്റാണ്ടില്‍ ഇക്കേരി രാജാക്കന്‍മാര്‍ പണിതതാണ് ഹോസ്ദുര്‍ഗ് കോട്ട. ആറേക്കറോളം സ്ഥലവിസ്തൃതിയില്‍ പണിതുയര്‍ത്തിയ കോട്ടയുടെ ഭാഗങ്ങളും ചുറ്റുമതിലും കാലപ്പഴക്കം കൊണ്ടും വിവിധതരം കയ്യേറ്റങ്ങള്‍ കൊണ്ടും ഓരോ ഭാഗങ്ങളും തകരുകയായിരുന്നു. കാഞ്ഞങ്ങാട് ബ്ലോക്ക് ഓഫീസ് കോംപ്ലക്‌സ്, കോടതി സമുച്ചയങ്ങള്‍, പൊതുമരാമത്ത് വകുപ്പ് ഓഫീസുകള്‍, ചേയര്‍ ഹൗസ് കാംപാകൊ, വൈദ്യുതി ബോര്‍ഡ്, വിദ്യാഭ്യാസ ഓഫീസ്, മൃഗാശുപത്രി, പൊലീസ് ക്വാര്‍ട്ടേഴ്‌സുകള്‍ തുടങ്ങിയവയും ഹൊസ്ദുര്‍ഗ് ഗവ.ഹൈസ്‌കൂളിന്റെ ഗ്രൗണ്ട്, ലിറ്റില്‍ ഫഌവര്‍ ഗേള്‍സ് ഹൈസ്‌കൂള്‍ എന്നിവയ്ക്ക് പുറമെ ഏതാനും സ്വകാര്യാശുപത്രികളും വീടുകളും ക്വാര്‍ട്ടേഴ്‌സുകളും എല്ലാം കോട്ടയ്ക്ക് അകത്താണ്. കോട്ട പണിയുമ്പോള്‍ ഇവിടെയുണ്ടായിരുന്നത് പൂങ്കാവ് ശിവക്ഷേത്രം മാത്രമാണ്. ഇത് നേരത്തെ ദേവി ക്ഷേത്രമായിരുന്നുവത്രെ. ശേഷിക്കുന്ന രണ്ടര ഏക്കര്‍ സ്ഥലം മാത്രമാണ് ഇപ്പോള്‍ കോട്ടയ്ക്ക് സ്വന്തമായുള്ളത്. അതിന്റെ നടുവില്‍ തലയെത്തിനില്‍ക്കുന്നതാകട്ടെ ഒരു പൊതുശ്മശാനവും. ഇതടക്കമാണിപ്പോള്‍ പുരാവസ്തുവകുപ്പിന് കൈമാറിയിട്ടുള്ളത്. തകര്‍ന്ന കോട്ടഭാഗങ്ങള്‍ പൂര്‍വ്വസ്ഥിയിലാക്കാന്‍ ലക്ഷകണക്കിന് ചെങ്കല്ലുകള്‍ ആവശ്യമാണ്. ഇതിന് കോടികള്‍ ചിലവ് പ്രതീക്ഷിക്കുന്നു.

കാഞ്ഞങ്ങാട്: ഈ വര്‍ഷത്തെ ഹജ്ജാജിമാര്‍ക്ക് കഴിഞ്ഞ വര്‍ഷം പോയിവന്നവരുടെ അനുഭവങ്ങള്‍ പങ്ക്‌വെക്കുന്നതിനുവേണ്ടി കൂട്ടായ്മ സംഘടിപ്പിക്കുന്നു. മാര്‍ച്ച് 2ന് രാവിലെ 9.30 മുതല്‍ ഒരു മണിവരെ പുതിയകോട്ട നൂറുല്‍ ഇസ്ലാം മദ്രസ്സ ഹാളിലാണ് കൂട്ടായ്മയെന്ന് കേരള ഹജ്ജ് വെല്‍ഫെയര്‍ഫോറം ജില്ലാ പ്രസിഡന്റ് പി.എം.ഹസ്സന്‍ ഹാജി അറിയിച്ചു.

കാസര്‍കോട്: മുനിസിപ്പല്‍ സ്റേഡിയത്തില്‍ തിങ്ങിനിറഞ്ഞ മാപ്പിളപ്പാട്ട് ആസ്വാദകര്‍ക്ക് മുമ്പില്‍ ഞായറാഴ്ച കൈരളി ടിവിയുടെ പട്ടുറുമാലിന്റെ എട്ടാം റൌണ്ട് മത്സരങ്ങള്‍ അരങ്ങേറി. ഏഴ് മണിക്ക് ആരംഭിച്ച മത്സരം 12 മണിവരെ നീണ്ടു. കാസര്‍കോട്ടെ നസീബ തളങ്കരയടക്കം 10 മത്സരാര്‍ത്ഥികളാണ് രംഗത്തെത്തിയത്. സി.എച്ച്. കുഞ്ഞമ്പു എം.എല്‍.എ, നഗരസഭാ ചെയര്‍പേഴ്സണ്‍ ബീഫാത്തിമ ഇബ്രാഹിം, ചെര്‍ക്കളം അബ്ദുല്ല, ഇ. ചന്ദ്രശേഖരന്‍, എം.സി. ഖമറുദ്ദീന്‍, പി.ബി. അഹമ്മദ്, യു.കെ. യൂസഫ്, അസീസ് തായിനേരി, ടി.ആര്‍. അജയന്‍, അബ്ദുല്‍ റൌഫ്, റഹീം, ഹിഷാം തുടങ്ങിയവര്‍ പട്ടുറുമാല്‍ വീശിയാണ് മത്സരത്തിന് തുടക്കം കുറിച്ചത്. കൂറ്റന്‍ സ്റേജില്‍ മികവുറ്റ ലൈറ്റിങ്ങ് -ശബ്ദ നിയന്ത്രണ സംവിധാനമുപയോഗിച്ച് നടത്തിയ പരിപാടി ആസ്വാദകര്‍ക്ക് പുതിയ അനുഭവമായി. സുല്‍ത്താന്‍ ഗോള്‍ഡ് ഇന്റര്‍ നാഷണല്‍, ഫാഷന്‍ ഗോള്‍ഡ് മഹല്‍, യു.കെ. ട്രേഡേഴ്സ് എന്നിവരായിരുന്നു കാസര്‍കോട്ടെ സ്പോണ്‍സര്‍മാര്‍.

കാഞ്ഞങ്ങാട്: മതസ്വാതന്ത്ര്യത്തിന്റെ പേരില്‍ എ.പി.അബ്ദുള്ളക്കുട്ടിയും കെ.എസ്.മനോജും സി.പി.എം. വിട്ടത് മതഭ്രാന്തന്മാരെ സൃഷ്ടിക്കാന്‍ മാത്രമേ ഉപകരിക്കുകയുള്ളൂവെന്നും ഇത് ഇസ്‌ലാമിന്റെ വിശാലതയെ സങ്കുചിതപ്പെടുത്തുകയും പരിമിതപ്പെടുത്തുകയുമാണ് ചെയ്തതെന്നും കെ.ടി.ജലീല്‍ എം.എല്‍.എ. പറഞ്ഞു. 'മതം, മതഭ്രാന്ത്, ഭീകരത' എന്ന വിഷയത്തില്‍ അതിയാമ്പൂര്‍ പാര്‍കോ ആര്‍ട്‌സ് ആന്‍ഡ് സ്‌പോര്‍ട്‌സ് ക്ലബ്ബ് സംഘടിപ്പിച്ച യുവജന സെമിനാര്‍ ഉദ്ഘാടനം ചെയ്യുകയായിരുന്നു അദ്ദേഹം.
1980 കളില്‍ സോഷ്യലിസ്റ്റ് പ്രസ്ഥാനങ്ങള്‍ക്കെതിരെ മുസ്‌ലീങ്ങളെ ഇളക്കിവിടുന്നതിന് ഇസ്‌ലാം അപകടത്തിലാണ് എന്ന് പ്രചരിപ്പിച്ച അമേരിക്ക ഇപ്പോള്‍ ഇസ്‌ലാം അപകടകാരിയാണ് എന്ന് പറയുന്നത് ദുഷ്ടലാക്കോടെയാണെന്ന് ഡി.വൈ.എഫ്.ഐ സംസ്ഥാന സെക്രട്ടറി ടി.വി.രാജേഷ് പറഞ്ഞു. യൂത്ത് ലീഗ് മുന്‍ സംസ്ഥാന വൈസ് പ്രസിഡന്റ് ബഷീര്‍ വെള്ളിക്കോത്ത്, സംഘാടകസമിതി ചെയര്‍മാന്‍ എം.രാഘവന്‍ എന്നിവര്‍ സംസാരിച്ചു. ഡി.വൈ.എഫ്.ഐ. സംസ്ഥാന ട്രഷറര്‍ വി.വി.രമേശന്‍ അധ്യക്ഷനായി. ബി.രാജന്‍ സ്വാഗതവും എം.കെ.ബാലകൃഷ്ണന്‍ നന്ദിയുംപറഞ്ഞു.

-K.P.Sukumaran,Bangaloreഇന്ന് വളരെ പ്രചാരത്തിലുള്ള ഒരു പദമാണ് വര്‍ഗ്ഗീയത. ഏത് ചര്‍ച്ചയിലും സംവാദത്തിലും ആളുകള്‍ ഈ വാക്ക് ധാരാളമായി ഉപയോഗിക്കുന്നു. വര്‍ഗ്ഗീയതയ്ക്ക് ലേബലുകളുമുണ്ട്. ഹിന്ദു വര്‍ഗ്ഗീയത,മുസ്ലീം വര്‍ഗ്ഗീയത, ഭൂരിപക്ഷ-ന്യൂനപക്ഷ വര്‍ഗ്ഗീയത അങ്ങനെയങ്ങനെ. വര്‍ഗ്ഗീയതയെ മതങ്ങളുമായി മാത്രമാണ് ഇന്ന് ബന്ധപ്പെടുത്തിക്കാണുന്നത്. എങ്ങനെയാണ് വര്‍ഗ്ഗീയത എന്ന വാക്ക് മതങ്ങളുമായി മാത്രം ബന്ധപ്പെട്ടു പോയത്? എന്താണ് വര്‍ഗ്ഗീയത എന്ന വാക്ക് കൊണ്ട് ഉദ്ദേശിക്കുന്നത് ? എന്താണ് വര്‍ഗ്ഗീയതയുടെ മന:ശാസ്ത്രം? ആരെങ്കിലും ആലോചിക്കുന്നുണ്ടോ, സ്ഥാനത്തും അസ്ഥാനത്തും ഈ വാക്ക് ഇഷ്ടം പോലെ ഉപയോഗിക്കുമ്പോള്‍? ഞാന്‍ വര്‍ഷങ്ങളായി ഈ വാക്കിന്റെ അര്‍ത്ഥം അന്വേഷിക്കുകയായിരുന്നു.
എന്റെ അഭിപ്രായത്തില്‍ , ഏതൊരാള്‍ തന്റെ സംഘടന അഥവാ താന്‍ അംഗമായിട്ടുള്ള സമൂഹം,ഗ്രൂപ്പ് മാത്രമാണ് ശരിയെന്നും അതിന്റെ സിദ്ധാന്തങ്ങള്‍ മാത്രമാണ് അന്തിമമായി ശരിയെന്ന് കരുതുകയും മറ്റുള്ള സംഘടനകളോട് അതിന്റെ സിദ്ധാന്തങ്ങളോട് അസഹിഷ്ണുത തോന്നുകയും ചെയ്യുന്ന മനോഭാവം എന്താണോ അതാണ് വര്‍ഗ്ഗീയത എന്നാണ്. അതായത് വര്‍ഗ്ഗീയത എന്ന വികാരം വ്യക്തിഗതമാണ്.
അങ്ങനെനോക്കുമ്പോള്‍ മതം,പ്രദേശം,ഭാഷ,ജാതി,നിറം,തൊഴില്‍,രാഷ്ട്രീയം എന്ന് വേണ്ട നൂറ് നൂറ് തരം വര്‍ഗ്ഗീയതകളുണ്ട്. ഉദാഹരണത്തിന് ഒരു പ്രദേശത്ത് ഭൂരിപക്ഷവും മാര്‍ക്സിസ്റ്റുകാരാണെന്ന് സങ്കല്‍പ്പിക്കുക , അവിടെ മറ്റേതെങ്കിലും പാര്‍ട്ടി പ്രവര്‍ത്തനം ആരംഭിക്കുമ്പോള്‍ ചില മാര്‍ക്സിസ്റ്റ് പ്രവര്‍ത്തകര്‍ക്ക് അസഹിഷ്ണുത തോന്നുകയും ആ പാര്‍ട്ടിയെ ബലം പ്രയോഗിച്ച് അവിടെ നിന്ന് തുരത്തുകയും ചെയ്യുന്നു. അത് മാര്‍ക്സിസ്റ്റ് വര്‍ഗ്ഗീയതയാണ്. എന്നാല്‍ എല്ലാ മാര്‍ക്സിസ്റ്റ്കാരിലും ആ അസഹിഷ്ണുത ഉണ്ടാവണമെന്നില്ല. ഞങ്ങളെപ്പോലെ തന്നെ അവരും പ്രവര്‍ത്തിച്ചോട്ടെ എന്ന് കരുതുന്ന മാര്‍ക്സിസ്റ്റ് അനുഭാവികളും കാണും. മാത്രമല്ല പല വീടുകളിലും വ്യത്യസ്ത രാഷ്ട്രീയപാര്‍ട്ടികളില്‍ വിശ്വസിക്കുന്നവരുണ്ട്. അപ്പോള്‍ ആ പ്രദേശത്ത് മാര്‍ക്സിസ്റ്റ് വര്‍ഗ്ഗീയവാദികളും മാര്‍ക്സിസ്റ്റ് വര്‍ഗ്ഗീയവാദികള്‍ അല്ലാത്തവരും ഉണ്ട്. ഭാഷയുടെ പേരിലും പ്രദേശങ്ങളുടെ പേരിലും വര്‍ഗ്ഗീയത ഇന്ന് സജീവമായുണ്ട്. മറാത്തി ഭാഷയുടെ പേരില്‍ വര്‍ഗ്ഗീയവിഷം തുപ്പുന്ന സംഘടനയാണ് മഹരാഷ്ട്ര നവനിര്‍മ്മാണ്‍ സമിതി. എന്നാല്‍ മറാത്തി ഭാഷ സംസാരിക്കുന്ന എല്ലാവരും മറാത്തി വര്‍ഗ്ഗീയവാദികളല്ല.

ഒരു മതത്തില്‍ പെട്ട ചിലര്‍ക്ക് , തന്റെ മതം മാത്രമാണ് ശരിയെന്ന് തോന്നുകയും മറ്റ് മതങ്ങളോട് അസഹിഷ്ണുത തോന്നി വിദ്ധ്വംസകപ്രവര്‍ത്തനങ്ങളില്‍ ഏര്‍പ്പെടുകയും ചെയ്യുമ്പോള്‍ അവന്റെ വര്‍ഗ്ഗീയമനോഭാവത്തെ അവന്‍ പ്രതിനിധാനം ചെയ്യുന്ന മതവുമായി ബന്ധപ്പെടുത്തി മതവര്‍ഗ്ഗീയതയായി ചിത്രീകരിക്കുന്ന പ്രവണതയാണ് ഇന്ന് ഏറ്റവും അപകടകരമായി എനിക്ക് തോന്നുന്നത്. ചുരുക്കത്തില്‍ എവിടെ ആളുകളുടെ കൂട്ടായ്മ രൂപപ്പെടുന്നുവോ അവിടെ വര്‍ഗ്ഗീയതയുമുണ്ട്, ചിലരില്‍ മാത്രം. അതിന് ആ കൂട്ടായ്മയെ മൊത്തത്തില്‍ കുറ്റപ്പെടുത്തുന്നത് ശരിയല്ല. വര്‍ഗ്ഗീയതയുടെ പേരില്‍ ഒരു മതത്തെയോ,സംഘടനയെയോ, പാര്‍ട്ടിയെയോ മൊത്തത്തില്‍ കുറ്റവിചാരണ ചെയ്യുന്നത് ശരിയായിരിക്കില്ല. ഏറിയോ കുറഞ്ഞോ വര്‍ഗ്ഗീയമനോഭാവം ഏത് സംഘടനയിലും ഉണ്ടായിരിക്കെ, അത് ഇല്ലാതാക്കാന്‍ ശ്രമിക്കാതെ മറ്റ് സംഘടനകളെ കുറ്റപ്പെടുത്താന്‍ കാണിക്കുന്ന അമിതോത്സാഹം നമ്മെ എവിടെയുമെത്തിക്കുകയില്ല.

എല്ലാ സംഘടനകള്‍ക്കും , മതങ്ങള്‍ക്കും, രാഷ്ട്രീയപാര്‍ട്ടികള്‍ക്കും , പ്രത്യയശാസ്ത്രങ്ങള്‍ക്കും ഇവിടെ ഇടമുണ്ട് എന്ന് ഓരോ സംഘടനയും അംഗീകരിക്കലാണ് വര്‍ഗ്ഗീയത ഇല്ലാതാക്കാനുള്ള പരിശ്രമങ്ങളുടെ ആദ്യത്തെ പടി. എല്ലാ തെറ്റുകുറ്റങ്ങളും മറ്റുള്ള സംഘടനകളിലാണ് എന്നും തന്റെ സംഘടന കുറ്റമറ്റതാണ് എന്നും ആര് കരുതുന്നുവോ അവനില്‍ വര്‍ഗ്ഗീയതയുടെ രോഗലക്ഷണങ്ങളുണ്ട്. അതാണ് ആദ്യം ചികിത്സിച്ച് ഭേദമാക്കേണ്ടത് .

ഇസ്ളാം മത പ്രവാചകന്‍ മുഹമ്മദ്‌ നബി(സ)യെക്കുറിച്ച്‌ സിനിമ തയ്യാറാവുന്നു. 150 ദശലക്ഷം ഡോളര്‍ ചിലവ്‌ വരുന്ന ചിത്രമെടുക്കാന്‍ തയ്യാറെടുക്കുന്നത്‌ ഓസ്കാര്‍ പുരസ്കാരം നേടിയിട്ടുള്ള അമേരിയ്ക്കന്‍ നിര്‍മ്മാതാവ്‌ ബാരി എം. ഓസ്ബോണ്‍ ആണ്‌. ഖത്തറിലാണ്‌ സിനിമയെക്കുറിച്ചുള്ള പ്രഖ്യാപനമുണ്‌ ടായത്‌. ജീസസ്‌ ക്രൈസ്റ്റിനെപ്പറ്റിയും മറ്റ്‌ മത സ്ഥാപകരെപ്പറ്റിയും ധാരാളം സിനിമകള്‍ നിര്‍മ്മിയ്ക്കപ്പെട്ടിട്ടുണ്‌ ടെങ്കിലും ഇത്‌ വരെ ഇസ്ളാമുമായി ബന്ധപ്പെട്ട ഒന്നും സിനിമകള്‍ക്ക്‌ വിഷയമായിരുന്നില്ല. അല്ലാഹുവിണ്റ്റേയോ മുഹമ്മദ്‌ നബിയുടേയോ ഏതെങ്കിലും തരത്തിലുള്ള ചിത്രീകരണം പാടില്ല എന്ന്‌ ഇസ്ളാം മതം അനുശാസിയ്ക്കുന്നതാണ്‌ സിനിമയുടെ പ്രധാന വെല്ലുവിളി. അതിനാല്‍ത്തന്നെ പ്രവാചകനെ കഥാപാത്രമാക്കാതെയായിരിയ്ക്കും അദ്ദേഹത്തിണ്റ്റെ കഥ പറയുന്നത്‌. ഇസ്ളാം- പാശ്ചാത്യ സംസ്കാരങ്ങള്‍ തമ്മില്‍ നിലനില്‍ക്കുന്ന വിടവ്‌ നികത്തുക എന്നതാണ്‌ സിനിമയിലൂടെ ലക്ഷ്യമിടുന്നതെന്ന്‌ അണിയറ പ്രവര്‍ത്തകര്‍ പറയുന്നു. ഇസ്ളാമിണ്റ്റെ യഥാര്‍ത്ഥ അര്‍ത്ഥമെന്താണെന്ന്‌ സിനിമ ലോകത്തിന്‌ കാണിച്ചുകൊടുക്കും. ചിത്രത്തിന്‌ ഇത്‌ വരെ പേരിട്ടിട്ടില്ല. ഇംഗ്ളീഷ്‌ ഭാഷയറിയാവുന്ന മുസ്ളീം നടീനടന്‍മാരാണ്‌ ചിത്രത്തില്‍ വേഷമിടുക എന്നാണ്‌ റിപ്പോര്‍ട്ട്‌. 2011 ഓടെ മാത്രമേ ചിത്രീകരണം ആരംഭിയ്ക്കൂ. ഖത്തര്‍ ആസ്ഥാനമാക്കി പുതുതായി രൂപം കൊണ്‌ ട അല്‍നൂറ്‍ ഹോള്‍ഡിംഗ്സ്‌ എന്ന കമ്പനിയ്ക്ക്‌ വേണ്‌ ടിയാണ്‌ ഓസ്ബോണ്‍ ചിത്രം നിര്‍മ്മിയ്ക്കുന്നത്‌. ഖത്തറിലെ അസോസിയേഷന്‍ ഓഫ്‌ മുസ്ളീം സ്കോളേഴ്സ്‌ എന്ന സംഘടനയുടെ തലവനായ ഷെയ്ഖ്‌ യൂസഫ്‌ ഖ്വറാദവി എന്ന സുന്നി പുരോഹിതണ്റ്റെ നേതൃത്വത്തിലാണ്‌ ചിത്രത്തിന്‌ വേണ്‌ ടിയുള്ള ഗവേഷണങ്ങള്‍ നടക്കുന്നത്‌. ലോകത്തെമ്പാടും ജനകോടികള്‍ ആദരിയ്ക്കുന്ന ചരിത്രപുരുഷനെപ്പറ്റി സിനിമയെടുക്കുന്ന സംരംഭം താന്‍ ആവേശത്തോടെയാണ്‌ ഏറ്റെടുത്തതെന്ന്‌ ബാരി എം. ഓസ്ബോണ്‍ പറഞ്ഞു.

ജില്ലയിലെ വാഹനാപകടങ്ങള്‍ വര്‍ധിക്കുകയും ബോധവല്‍ക്കരണം തകൃതിയായി നടക്കുകയും ചെയ്യുന്നതിനിടയിലും വിദ്യാലയങ്ങളില്‍ മോട്ടോര്‍ ബൈക്കുകളുടെ എണ്ണം വ്യാപകമാവുന്നതായി പരാതി. ജില്ലയില്‍ അനിയന്ത്രിത വാഹനോപയോഗം അപകടങ്ങള്‍ക്കു കാരണമാവുന്നുവെന്ന കണെ്ടത്തലിനെ തുടര്‍ന്നു, പ്രായപൂര്‍ത്തിയാകാത്തവരും സ്കൂള്‍ കുട്ടികളും വാഹനമോടിക്കുന്നത്‌ പോലിസ്‌ വിലക്കിയിരുന്നു. ഇരുചക്രവാഹനങ്ങളാണ്‌ ഏറ്റവും കൂടുതല്‍ അപടങ്ങള്‍ വരുത്തിവയ്ക്കുന്നത്‌. ഇടക്കാലത്ത്‌ സ്കൂള്‍ കുട്ടികള്‍ മോട്ടോര്‍ബൈക്കുകള്‍ ഉപയോഗിക്കുന്നതു ഒരു പരിധിവരെ കുറഞ്ഞിരുന്നെങ്കിലും അടുത്തകാലത്തായി വീണ്ടും ബൈക്കുപയോഗം വ്യാപിച്ചിട്ടുണ്ട്‌. ജില്ലയിലെ ചില എയ്ഡഡ്‌ സ്കൂളുകളിലാണ്‌ ഇത്തരത്തില്‍ ധാരാളമായി കുട്ടികള്‍ ബൈക്കുകള്‍ ഉപയോഗിക്കുന്നത്‌. ചെമ്മനാട്‌, ചട്ടഞ്ചാല്‍, വിദ്യാനഗര്‍ തുടങ്ങിയ സ്ഥലങ്ങളിലെ സ്കൂള്‍ കുട്ടികളും വന്‍തോതില്‍ മോട്ടോര്‍ ബൈക്കുകള്‍ ഉപയോഗിക്കുന്നതായി പരാതിയുണ്ട്‌. ഒരു ബൈക്കില്‍തന്നെ മൂന്നുപേര്‍ യാത്രചെയ്യുന്നതും പതിവാണ്‌. അധ്യാപകരും പോലിസും കര്‍ശനനിയന്ത്രണം ഏര്‍പ്പെടുത്താത്തതു കുട്ടികള്‍ക്കു പ്രോ ല്‍സാഹനമായിട്ടുണ്ട്‌. സംസ്ഥാനത്ത്‌ 18 വയസ്സില്‍ താഴെയുള്ളവര്‍ക്കു ഒരുതരത്തിലുള്ള വാഹന ലൈസന്‍സും നല്‍കേണെ്ടന്നാണ്‌ നിയമം. എന്നാല്‍ കൂടുതല്‍ തുകനല്‍കി കര്‍ണാടകയില്‍നിന്നു ലൈ ന്‍സ്‌ സമ്പാദിക്കുന്നവരുമുണ്ട്‌. ബൈക്ക്‌ യാത്രയ്ക്കിടെ മൊബൈല്‍ഫോണ്‍ ഉപയോഗിക്കുന്ന തും വ്യാപകമായിട്ടുണ്ട്‌. എന്നാല്‍ കുട്ടികള്‍ക്കു സൈക്കിള്‍യാത്ര നിര്‍ബന്ധമാക്കിയ ചെറുവത്തൂറ്‍ ഉപജില്ലയിലെ ഉദിനൂറ്‍ ഹയര്‍സെക്കന്‍ഡറി സ്കൂള്‍ സംസ്ഥാനത്തിനു തന്നെ മാതൃകയായിട്ടുണ്ട്‌. ഇവിടത്തെ 80 ശതമാനത്തോളം കുട്ടികളും സ്കൂളില്‍ പോവാന്‍ സൈക്കിളാണ്‌ ഉപയോഗിക്കുന്നത്‌. ചെറുവത്തൂറ്‍ ഉപജില്ലയിലെ മിക്ക വിദ്യാലയങ്ങളും ഈ മാതൃക തുടരുമ്പോഴും കാസര്‍കോഡ്‌ ഉപജില്ലയിലെ സ്കൂളുകളില്‍ ബൈക്കുപയോഗം വര്‍ധിച്ചുവരുന്നതായാണ്‌ വിവരം. ജില്ലയില്‍ മൊത്തം ബൈക്കുപയോഗത്തിണ്റ്റെ 40 ശതമാനത്തോളം 18 വയസ്സിനു താഴെയുള്ളവരാണെന്നാണ്‌ കണക്കുകള്‍ സൂചിപ്പിക്കുന്നത്‌. സ്കൂള്‍ കുട്ടികളുടെ ബൈക്കുയാത്ര നിയന്ത്രിക്കാന്‍ അധികൃതര്‍ ശ്രദ്ധിക്കുന്നില്ലെന്നും പരാതിയുണ്ട്‌.

സ്ഥിരമായി ടിവി കാണുന്ന ശീലമുള്ളവരില്‍ 18ശതമാനം പേര്‍ക്ക് ഹൃദയസംബന്ധമായ അസുഖങ്ങള്‍ വരാന്‍ സാധ്യത കൂടുതലാണത്രേ. ഒപ്പം തന്നെ ഒന്‍പത് ശതമാനം പേരില്‍ കാന്‍സറിനും സാധ്യത കൂടുതാണെന്നും ഗവേഷകര്‍ പറയുന്നു.
ഇങ്ങനെ നോക്കുമ്പോള്‍ സ്ഥിരമായി ടിവി കാണുന്നവര്‍ക്ക് മറ്റുള്ളവരെ അപേക്ഷിച്ച് 11 ശതമാനം നേരത്തേയുള്ള മരണത്തിന് സാധ്യത കൂടുതലാണ്. ടിവിയുടെ കാര്യത്തില്‍ മാത്രമല്ല ഗവേഷകര്‍ ഈ കണക്കുകള്‍ മുന്നോട്ടുവയ്ക്കുന്നത്, മറിച്ച് സ്ഥിരമായി കമ്പ്യൂട്ടര്‍ ഉപയോഗിക്കുന്നവരുടെ കാര്യവും ഏതാണ്ട് ഇങ്ങനെയൊക്കെ തന്നെയാണ്.
ജീവിതശൈലികൊണ്ടുണ്ടാകുന്ന രോഗങ്ങളെക്കുറിച്ച് 8,800 പേരെ ഉള്‍പ്പെടുത്തി നടത്തിയ പഠനത്തിലാണ് ഇക്കാര്യം കണ്ടെത്തിയത്. ഹൃദ്രോഗമുള്‍പ്പെടെയുള്ള രോഗങ്ങള്‍ ഇല്ലാത്തവരെയായിരുന്നു പഠനത്തിന് വിധേയരാക്കിയത്.

ഇവരെ ദിവസത്തില്‍ നാല് മണിക്കൂറെങ്കിലും ടിവി കാണുന്നവര്‍, നാല് മണിക്കൂറില്‍ കുറവ് സമയം ടിവി കാണുന്നവര്‍ എന്നിങ്ങനെ രണ്ട് ഗ്രൂപ്പായി തിരിച്ചാണ് പഠനം നടത്തിയത്.
കൂടുതല്‍ സമയം ടിവി കാണുന്നവരില്‍ രക്തസമ്മര്‍ദ്ദം ഉള്‍പ്പെടെയുള്ള ആരോഗ്യ പ്രശ്‌നങ്ങല്‍ കൂടി വരുന്നതായി കണ്ടെത്തി.
വിക്ടോറിയ സ്‌റ്റേറ്റിലെ ഹാര്‍ട്ട് ആന്റ് ഡയബറ്റിസ് ഇന്‍സ്റ്റിറ്റിയൂട്ടിന്റെ തലവനായ ജേവിഡ് ഡണ്‍സ്റ്റണിന്റെ നേതൃത്വത്തിലുള്ള ഗവേഷകരാണ് ഇക്കാര്യത്തില്‍ പഠനം നടത്തിയത്.

ഒരു സെന്റ് എന്നത് ഹെക്ടര്‍ ആര്‍ സ്‌ക്വയര്‍ എന്ന മെട്രിക് കണക്കിലേക്ക് മാറ്റുമ്പോള്‍ 0.0.40 എന്നായി മാറും. അതായത് പൂജ്യം ഹെക്ടര്‍, പൂജ്യം ആര്‍. 40 സ്‌ക്വയര്‍ മീറ്റര്‍ സ്ഥലം. ഇത് ഒരേക്കറിന് കണക്കാക്കുമ്പോള്‍ 0.40.47 എന്നാകും. അതായത് പൂജ്യം ഹെക്ടര്‍, 40 ആര്‍. 47 സ്‌ക്വയര്‍ മീറ്റര്‍.

ഒരു സെന്റ് 40 സ്‌ക്വയര്‍ മീറ്റര്‍ ആണെങ്കില്‍ ഒരു ആര്‍ എന്നത് രണ്ടര സെന്റ് ആണ്. രണ്ടര ഏക്കര്‍ ആണ് ഒരു ഹെക്ടര്‍. ഉദാഹരണമായി ഒരു ഹെക്ടര്‍ ഒരു ആര്‍ 40 സ്‌ക്വയര്‍ മീറ്റര്‍ എന്നതിനെ സെന്റ് അളവിലേക്ക് മാറ്റുമ്പോള്‍ രണ്ട് ഏക്കര്‍ 53.5 സെന്റ് എന്നാകും.
